Few fish symbolize the open ocean like the blue marlin. Fast, powerful, and built for the deep, they are the fish of legend—known for blistering runs, towering jumps, and battles that anglers remember for the rest of their lives. To see one in the water is to witness pure strength and speed.
My connection to this subject runs deeper than most. A commission for a former student’s family—after a remarkable catch off Destin, Florida—became the starting point for my journey into full-time painting. The fish they landed was nearly ten feet long, and creating that first large-scale marlin showed me what these subjects could become when painted at a scale that matches their presence. That painting now hangs in their home overlooking the water where the story began.
This piece continues that idea, painted at a monumental scale—48 inches tall and 96 inches long—so the viewer feels the movement and power of the fish rather than simply observing it. From across a large room, the long sweeping form and bold blues command attention; up close, the layered color, line, and subtle tonal shifts reveal the energy and motion that make marlin so captivating.
This is a true statement piece, designed for someone who feels connected to the ocean, to big water, and to the stories that only happen far offshore.
