Steve Shaw is an artist and teacher currently residing in Decatur, Georgia with his wife Natalie and daughter Marin. Each week Steve spends three days teaching art at the Schenck School in Atlanta and three days in his Decatur studio painting. After earning an economics degree from Colorado College, Steve found himself entrenched in the business world. Within six months, he traded in his coat and tie for shorts and docksiders and headed to Key West. It was in the Keys that Steve realized his true calling - art and teaching. In 1994 Steve left Key West and his life as a boat captain to pursue a career as an artist and teacher. He moved to Atlanta and studied art at Georgia State University. In December of 1997 he graduated with honors, earning a B.F.A. in Art Education which has allowed him to combine his two greatest loves. | ![]() |
The images in this series celebrate the humor, the beauty and the "architecture" of the fish. Steve is continuously exploring color and texture as he brings his fish to life. His paintings are a combination of mixed media ranging from crisp, stark charcoal drawings to fish that sport a rustic external skeleton of twigs combined with an explosion of color. His latest fish have grown to include an almost life like surface of shimmering scales. | |
