Charcoal and Pastels

I often do a charcoal or pastel drawing before making a painting. Originally these drawings were only made as studies. Now I enjoy them so much I push them beyond the study stage and develop them into finished pieces. Drawing is a fast and bold way to workout placement and design issues. The charcoal / pastels can be messy, but I really love the basic and direct way the image takes shape on the paper. Once the drawing is done I go back in with erasers to add highlights and generally clean it up. These drawings are all on Arches 140# paper and are sealed with clear plastic Krylon.
